19 Awesome Movie Cameos Nobody Saw Coming

6. Neil Patrick Harris - Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle

Harold And Kumar Neil Patrick Harris
New Line Cinema

During their weed-induced trek to get some of those tasty White Castle burgers, Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn) pick up a hitchhiker, who just so happens to be Doogie Howser star Neil Patrick Harris.

Harris plays a fictionalised version of himself, high on ecstasy and irrepressibly horny. When Harold and Kumar go into a convenience store, Harris drives off with their car, only to re-appear at the end of the film to pay for their White Castle meals when they realise they're out of cash (and he gives them a little extra for the "love stains" he made in the back of the car).

At the time this was Harris like audiences had never seen him before, and an excellent way for the actor to shed the boyish image that still clung to him. That he won his much-loved role in How I Met Your Mother the very next year is likely no coincidence.
