Plot: Evil spirits haunt a comatose child and his family try to save him.

Insidious was an exhilarating film to watch at the time. Why? Because it was something that was feeling increasingly rare: a scary film.

Seriously, Insidious is terrifying. It was with this movie that James Wan first revealed himself as the master of the jump scare and the entire thing is an absolutely nerve-shredding scare fest in which fear and terror run through pretty much every scene.

Sure, the story does get a bit silly towards the end but certainly not to the extent that it derails what is an enormously fun horror movie thrill ride that is, come to think of it, the first great horror film of the 2010s. Luckily for us all, it was a sign of things to come.
