Plot: In 1960s America a group of youngsters discover a sinister book of stories which releases a wave of nightmarish horrors upon them.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is an excellent horror film. It's nostalgic, often charming and will work well with teenage audiences, but it's also genuinely terrifying and highly disturbing, making this a flick that really does have something for everyone. It benefits further from a poignant script and Andre Ovredal's hugely frightening directing.

2019 was not a terribly good year for horror films. The vast majority of 2019 horror films were sub-par and tragically, Scary Stories was genuinely one of the greatest horror movies of that year... and it came and went with little fanfare. As such, this stands as not only the most underrated horror film of 2019, but one of the most underrated horror flicks of the decade.
