Plot: A young woman is stalked by a mysterious entity after a sexual encounter.

It Follows is a truly terrifying horror film. It's so unbearably creepy, disturbing and laced with omnipresent dread that you'll probably only be able to watch it once. The unnamed entity which serves as the film's antagonist is also one of the most frightening film villains of recent years.

Writer-director David Robert Mitchell directs the film with consummate skill and fills every scene with terror and nuanced details that make this far more complex and thought-provoking than simply an STI allegory, which is what the film has sometimes been described as in a thoroughly reductive manner. Add in strong performances, a brilliant soundtrack and a highly engaging, sympathetic cast of young characters and you've got the finest horror film of 2015, as well as one of the 21st century's best.

Unfortunately, the ending is very disappointing but that doesn't undermine the greatness of the rest of the film and it's definitely essential viewing for all horror fans (ignore the bewilderingly low IMDb rating of just 6.8).
