20 Action Films From The 1990s You Must Watch
1. Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
In 1986 James Cameron defied everyone’s expectations by making the sequel to Ridley Scott’s Alien an action based horror film, which earned him major critical and financial success. In 1991, he would create a much bigger, bolder and action packed sequel in the form of Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
15 years after the events of the first film, Linda Hamilton returns as Sarah Conner, who has transformed herself into a badass survival expert in order to protect herself and her son, John Conner played by Edward Furlong, from the murderous Terminators. The twist however is that Schwarzenegger is a Terminator sent back to protect them from a more advanced Terminator made of liquid metal and played by Robert Patrick.
The film makes excellent use of both practical and special effects to really highlight the difference between the less advanced T-800 and the much superior T-1000, while also creating some of the most memorable and iconic moments in cinematic history.
From John and Sarah’s unique relationships with the T-800 to the incredible action sequences, Terminator 2: Judgement Day not only stands as one of the greatest action films of the 90’s, but as one of the best films ever made.
