20 Action Movie Sequels Since 2000 That Don't Suck
10. Hellboy II: The Golden Army
After accepting the directing gig on Blade II, Guillermo Del Toro had enough clout to able to make Hellboy, which at that point in his career was his best Hollywood movie. But if you know anything about Del Toro’s films, you’ll know he’s constantly attempting to outdo himself, and on Hellboy II, he certainly achieved it.
Grander in scale and richer in its storytelling, The Golden Army is much more than a ‘mere’ comic book movie. There’s scope to this mythical world, and its inhabitants do more than just take up space. Viewed today, the picture’s elf kings and magical races mean it looks like Del Toro’s dry run for directing The Hobbit (alas).
We should probably leave HB as he end this movie, though - frozen in freeze-frame after hearing some unexpected news. After all, third instalments didn't work out well for Superman, Spider-Man or the X-Men.
