20 Actors Who Were Almost Cast As The Guardians Of The Galaxy

19. Sharlto Copley

Almost was: Rocket For someone who hadn't acted in a feature film before 2009, Sharlto Copley has had an unbelievable career. Originally working behind-the-scenes for a production company, he was bought to everyone's attention with District 9 and branched out into blockbuster action with The A-Team. Looking like a genuine everyman (and not the pin-ups that normally pass for ordinary people), he's really impressed with his wide range of accents. Whether that range is enough to voice a bad-ass racoon, however, we're not too sold on. Naturally speaking with a deep South African accent, as evidenced in District 9 and Elysium, he's got a fairly convincing American going as evidenced in his work not with sci-fi upstart Neill Blomkamp. Things get a little shaky, however, when he gets out of his comfort zone; just see this year's Maleficent. Rumoured to be in the running for Rocket, it's for the best his talents were used elsewhere.
