Almost was: Star Lord Garrett Hedlund's appearance as Johnny Five in the Coens' sublime Inside Llewyn Davis gave audiences a look at just what this young actor could do. As a quiet musician who who phases in and out of Llewyn's journey, it was a great fifteen minutes and suggests the actor should stick to interesting indies rather than trying to be a leading man. Previously Hedlund's biggest role was Sam Flynn in TRON: Legacy where he played the usual orphaned-but-not-really protagonist whose purpose is less about plot development but to act as an 'in' for the audience. If things had gone his way, however, he could have had a much meatier leading role in the form of Star Lord; he was another actor angling for the role around the same time as Marsden. He'll be playing Hook in Pan (assumedly all lines will be monosyllabic), another reinvention/origin story of a classic character. Because we're so short of them at the moment.
