20 Actors That Were Almost Cast In The Lord Of The Rings

19. Bill Bailey - Gimli

Although a complete unknown to Stateside audiences, Bill Bailey has been one of Britain's most well-known and popular comedians for two decades, and is a constant presence on both television panel shows and the country's stand-up circuit, not to mention an incredibly talented musician. Bailey also dabbles in acting, mostly appearing on television but has feature credits in the likes of Hot Fuzz, Burke And Hare and Nanny McPhee And The Big Bang to his name. A noted fan of the source material, Bailey auditioned for the role of Gimli in The Lord Of The Rings and was ultimately unsuccessful. Although he wouldn't be deterred. Almost a decade later, a petition by fans to get him a part in The Hobbit gained over 1500 signatures and led to yet another unsuccessful audition, this time for the role of Gimli's father Gloin.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
