3. Michelle Pfeiffer - Clarice Starling (Silence Of The Lambs)

Jodie Foster was iconic as Clarice in 1991€™s Silence Of The Lambs, but she wasn€™t director Jonathan Demme€™s ideal actress. Reportedly, Demme wanted Michelle Pfeiffer to take on the part, but she turned it down due to the film€™s high violence content. The director spoke to The Daily Beast about Pfeiffer turning down the part.

"I went right to Michelle because we€™d had such a great experience on Mob, and I felt that she could do anything. But it was way too dark for her, so Michelle ran away from that part, I€™m happy to say, because that road led to Jodie Foster and working with Jodie was one of the great highs I€™ve ever experienced working."

Before Foster ultimately got the part Demme' saw over a hundred actresses including Meg Ryan and Melanie Griffith - all of whom took issue with the horrific subject matter.
