20 Actors Who Almost Starred In Your Favorite Horror Movies

4. Michael Keaton - Seth Brundle (The Fly)

David Cronenberg€™s update of The Fly indulges in its fair share of grotesque body horror but more importantly in characterization, with Jeff Goldblum making of his Seth Brundle a surprisingly affecting, relatable man. Instead of featuring his head on a fly€™s body (as they did in the original 1958 film), Cronenberg focuses on Brundle€™s human transformation into a fly, which culminates with him being put out of his misery by way of a shotgun blast from Geena Davis. However, at one point Michael Keaton was strongly considered for the role of Brundle before he was Batman (and even before he was Beetlejuice). Cronenberg must have had at least some idea that Keaton was more than simply a comedic actor (his biggest film role at the time was in the comedy Mr. Mom). The role, of course, went to Goldblum who did a marvelous job. So acclaimed was Goldblum€™s performance that many expressed outrage when he was not nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor, likely a result of the performance residing within a gory genre film.
