20 Actors Who Just Gave Their Best Performance Ever

3. Dylan O'Brien - Twinless

Life of Chuck Mark Hamill

Dylan O'Brien has well and truly completed his transformation from charming young leading man into Serious Dramatic Actor with James Sweeney's indie black comedy Twinless.

In what's undeniably one of the most intriguingly original concepts of the year, O'Brien stars as Roman, a young man grieving the recent death of his twin brother Rocky.

At a support group for twinless twins, Roman strikes up a fast friendship with Dennis (Sweeney), and things get more complicated from there.

O'Brien has been consistently good in just about everything, but this is the first role to well and truly stretch him dramatically.

Beyond portraying two twins - albeit only one for most of the movie - he wrings every drop of humanity from a man struggling to cope with the loss of said twin, pinballing between explosive anger and intense vulnerability.

There are surprises and tonal shifts a-plenty throughout the film's runtime, and O'Brien handles it all with incredible poise.
