Sophie Thatcher may still be very much in the earlier stages of her burgeoning career, but she's already given stellar performances in the hit TV show Yellowjackets and last year's brilliant Heretic, to name just two.

But Thatcher gave an even more nuanced performance in Companion, where she plays Iris, a companion robot to her owner/"boyfriend" Josh (Jack Quaid).

The brilliance of Thatcher's work here is that it has to operate on a few levels. To begin with, she's an android who has no idea she's an android, and then once she learns the truth, she's forced to reckon with this reality and affect her own agency.

The various means through which Iris' settings are changed and tampered with throughout the film only make this even more of a high-wire performance by Thatcher.

To say she rises to the challenge is quite the understatement, contributing another all-timer performance in the pantheon of unforgettable screen droids. 

But considering Thatcher is just 24 years of age, don't be shocked if she one-ups this turn with something even better in short order.
