20 Actors Who Just Had Awesome Comebacks
8. Guy Pearce
Guy Pearce is one of those terrific actors whose versatile talents aren't exploited nearly enough, especially in recent years where he's found himself appearing in a glut of schlocky genre films.
Since 2020 alone, Pearce has starred in the panned likes of Disturbing the Peace, Bloodshot, Without Remorse, The Seventh Day, Zone 414, Memory, The Infernal Machine, and Sunrise, most of which largely coasted off his star profile while giving him little to do.
So what a relief it was to see Pearce play a beefy supporting role in Brady Corbett's stunning epic drama The Brutalist.
Effectively portraying the film's villain, cagey industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren, Pearce gives a sinewy performance that marks a career-best achievement, enough that it finally landed him a well-earned Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination.
It served as a blinding reminder of the gravitas and presence Pearce can bring to a great character, and so it's perhaps little surprise that Pearce has since shot roles in new movies from Ridley Scott (The Dog Stars) and Danny Boyle (Ink), with Priscilla Queen of the Desert 2 also set to start filming soon.
