Still a decade away from concrete development in its current form, Jurassic World was apparently almost an Alex Proyas vehicle. The director was reportedly in discussions to direct in 2004 with filming set for March 2005 and a winter release at the end of that year.

Some of what Jurassic World would become was clearly there even back then, with Universal planning to construct a giant aquatic tank for the introduction of marine dinosaurs. Typically though, the script went through even more work throughout 2004, when it was suggested that Jeremy Piven and The Day After Tomorrow's Emmy Rossum were being considered for lead roles.

In the end Proyas distanced himself from the film, Piven concentrated on his new gig on Entourage and Rossum attempted to sabotage her career with Poseidon.
