In a scene restored for the Special Edition version of Aliens, when the Marines and Ripley are on the drop ship heading towards Hadley's Hope, Hudson (Bill Paxton) begins sarcastically boasting to Ripley about the vast array of weapons they're kitted out with. One of the items he mentions is a "phased plasma pulse rifle", and while the Marines are only seen firing ballistic weapons throughout the movie, this is clearly a nod to Cameron's The Terminator, where in one memorable scene, the Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) walks into a gun store and asks for a "phased plasma rifle in the 40-watt range". It's probably no coincidence that Paxton was also in that movie in a brief role.
