4. Most Stomach-Churning Scene - Gerald's Game (You Know The One)

Among other things, 2017 was the year of the Stephen King adaptation. While IT and The Dark Tower may have dominated the headlines for completely opposite reasons, television adaptations of The Mist and Mr. Mercedes also premiered, while Netflix threw their hat into the game with 1922 and Gerald's Game.

The latter was an incredibly tense two-hander led by brilliant performances from Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood, with director Mike Flanagan managing to wring every last drop of atmosphere from a contained story set almost entirely in a single location.

Then comes the hand thing.

Reminiscent of earlier David Cronenberg but with advanced in prosthetic effects and HD televisions, the signature moment of Gerald's Game is so well-staged and realistic as to be almost unwatchable, a grotesque moment burned into the retinas of every viewer that they won't forget anytime soon.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
