The Plot: Laura Peterson (Sheila Kelley) gets a knock at her door from David (Dan Stevens), a young soldier who claims to have been stationed with her deceased son, Caleb. She takes David into her home, but soon enough, it becomes clear that all is not as it seems, and it's not long before the bullets start flying. Why It's Awesome: Adam Wingard's outstanding thriller feels like a modern-day take on The Terminator, a visually stunning and sonically gorgeous film about a seemingly unstoppable character whose motivations and origins only partially unravel by the film's end. Fantastically violent and darkly funny, The Guest is destined for cult stardom, and is a sure step up for lead Stevens, who should win more action-orientated parts as a result.
