20 Awesome 80s Movies Which Defined Our Childhood

15. Short Circuit

TriStar PicturesTriStar PicturesYou just know it's an 80s movie when Ally Sheedy and Steve Gettenberg are playing the lead roles. Short Circuit might have been panned by critics at the time, but us kids knew a classic movie when we saw one, and if there's one thing kids love it's a talking robot. Number 5 certainly fit the bill, and Short Circuit satisfied our childhood cravings for robots in the wake of Star Wars et al unlike any other film. Taking the notion of transforming military robots into a more peaceable application certainly added to the charm of Short Circuit, and the conflict between military and peaceful means represented a nice touch of pacifism in a mainstream kid's movie. But Johnny 5 was the real star of the show, his personality coming through perfectly in Tim Blaney's voice acting. That said, how Number 5 managed with only 500k of memory is anyone's guess.
