20 Awesome 90s Movies The World Forgot

And finally, we've got The Limey. This might be one of the most underrated films of the 90s but, in a way, it's representative of this decade. From Pulp Fiction to Toy Story, many of the 90s' most acclaimed works were innovative flicks that pushed the boundaries of cinema and The Limey is just like that but, for whatever reason, it has never got its due. 

Much like how the aforementioned Pleasantville is one of the most striking movies out there regarding its use of colour, this dazzling piece from the great Steven Soderbergh is (arguably) among the most noteworthy films in regards to its editing. This one represents one of cinema's best attempts to replicate human thought, and it does this through complicated non-linear editing that jumps between scenes, places and times, thus putting viewers right in the headspace of its vengeful protagonist. It's incredible, absolutely singular stuff. 

Alongside its formal inventiveness, The Limey is a generally superb revenge thriller that gives viewers everything they could want: cold fury, bad-ass violence, heartfelt pain, a scumbag villain and an unforgettable antihero, who's brilliantly played by the late, great Terrence Stamp. It's a visually stunning probe deep into the mind of a hardened, haunted criminal dealing with a lifetime of regret and, like so many other beloved 90s films, it's an innovative reminder of what this medium can do. So come on, give it some recognition, eh?
