14. Ma Rainey's Black Bottom
This Denzel Washington-produced adaptation of August Wilson's beloved 1982 play of the same name stars Viola Davis as "Mother of the Blues" Ma Rainey, who during a particularly fraught recording session in the 1920s comes to blows with her white manager and producer.
If Davis' involvement with such prestigious material makes Ma Rainey's Black Bottom an immediate awards contender, it's also set to be the final screen appearance of Chadwick Boseman, who plays the part of Rainey's ambitious trumpeter Levee.
With Tony Award winner George C. Wolfe taking up directorial duties, it's easy to have faith in this drama living up to its mighty potential.
Ma Rainey's Black Bottom is released on Netflix later this year.
