2. John Malkovich In Being John Malkovich
Directed by music video visionary, Spike Jonze with a screenplay by Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind writer, Charlie Kaufman, Being John Malkovich was always going to be great. And weird. And it never disappointed: it is of course about a man who literally finds a portal in his office that leads to John Malkovich's mind. The film is an absolute gem, and it all works thanks to the participation of John Malkovich, who obviously plays an important role in the movie, and shows himself more than willing to poke fun at himself a little. The fact that he allows himself to be the butt of the joke, as it were drives the comedic impact, since that portrait is far at odds with the publicly held perception of him as a serious thespian. 1. Bill Murray In Zombieland
Here it is folks, your number one. And it's an accolade that goes to the only actor on the list who warrants two spots for appearances as himself. As you may or may not know, Bill Murray has become somewhat of a recluse lately and supposedly considers movie proposals by listening to whatever is left on his answer machine. Unless it's Ghostbusters 3 apparently. Also the pure excitement on the face of Woody Harrelson's Tallahassee when he first sees Murray is amazing. The whole concept of Murray pretending to be a zombie to stay alive seems like something the actor would do in real life. Even when he's dying ("Do you have any regrets?", "...Garfield, maybe" and the super dying breath) he is still hilarious. A worthy winner. Did we leave out any of your favorite appearances?
