20 Best Blu-rays Of 2015

1. X-Men: Days Of Future Past - The Rogue Cut

The best Blu-ray of the year by far was this version of 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past, which featured the much ballyhooed footage of Rogue (Anna Paquin) cut from the theatrical version due to time constraints. For fans, it was a thrilling chance to see the character again, even if she did simply get rescued from the sentinels and sit there with her hands on Wolverine's face for the rest of the movie. Beyond that, we also got to see Magneto and Iceman stage the breakout, which adds a cool new action sequence to the film. It's great being able to see the future-set mutants get more to do, as they mostly bookend the film in the theatrical version. The editing between their break-in to the X-Mansion and past-Magneto's break-in to the Pentagon to get his helmet back synchronises well, and Iceman's death arguably packs more of a punch as he dies saving his first love.
On the whole the changes made have Days of Future Past feeling like more of a complete movie; no surprises there, as this is essentially Bryan Singer's director's cut. Rounding out this superb Blu-ray is Singer's new commentary track for the Rogue Cut, which he does alongside composer/editor John Ottman. It's worth a listen for casual and diehard fans alike, as we discover more of the reasons why various edits were made and how they feel about the new cut itself - essential stuff.
