4. The Best Lord Of The Rings Joke EVER - The Martian
Despite the inevitable parallels to the poe-faced Interstellar, Ridley Scott's excellent human propaganda sci-fi was a surprisingly funny, surprisingly heart-warming affair. And the biggest belly laugh of all came thanks to Sean Bean (who should have been killed off on the golf course at the end, but that's by the by). When Childish Gambino comes up with his plan to save Watney, the secret NASA group dub it Project Elrond, in reference to The Lord Of The Rings as a parallel with the secretive nature of the meeting. Having played Boromir in the Lord Of The Rings, Sean Bean was charitably given the chance to explain why the project has been thusly dubbed, and it was an utter joy.
