9. Mr. Pink- Reservoir Dogs
Aside from not liking to tip waitresses and taking offense to the colour pink, not much is known about Mr. Pink, especially in comparison to the other dogs. We find out Mr. Orange is in fact an undercover cop, and we see how he goes from being a regular cop to a convincing criminal via the non-chronological ordering of the film. The structure of the film, as well as the events after the failed robbery, also allows us insight into the sick mind of Mr. Blonde and the rather noble and decent character of Mr. White. Mr. Pink however remains largely a mystery. We have no clue about his previous experiences or how he found his way into the team. What we do know is that when shit hits the fan, and it certainly does in this film, Mr. Pink turns into the most frantic, self-centred and certainly one of the most entertaining characters in the film. Only Steve Buscemi could make a vague and aloof character such as Mr. Pink so memorable and iconic, and out of a film that is bursting with memorable and iconic characters and moments, that is quite the achievement on his part. The fact that over 20 years later fans are still interested about the character and still ask, What happened to Mr. Pink?, emphasises the popularity and enduring legacy of both the character and Reservoir Dogs as a film. Interestingly, a fan theory surrounding the fate of Mr. Pink and the briefcase full of diamonds he runs off with at the end of the film has sprouted up on the internet, and many people believe that the mysterious briefcase with the unclassified cargo from Pulp Fiction is actually the briefcase that Mr. Pink had in his possession at the end of Dogs. Now all we need is a film to bridge these two classic films!
