David Fincher, man of many takes with a dark, cynical view on the world. Post-Fight Club his films received mixed reaction (although Zodiac is an underrated gem), but in the past few years he's hit a measured stride and made some of his best work.

The Social Network is, without a hint of hyperbole, one of the best films of the decade; the Citizen Kane comparisons really aren't all that grandiose. And Gone Girl took what could have been a pulpy adaptation and made it a searing commentary on marriage. Heck, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was (and whisper this in some circles) better than the original. Not one of those is less than great, and each brings that nastiness that made the director's name.

He's also one of several big names to dip his toe in the increasingly creative waters of TV, defining the style of House Of Cards and returning to Netflix next year for Mindhunter.
