2010s Films: True Grit, Inside Llewyn Davis, Hail, Caesar!

Upcoming Projects: None announced

Unlike other long-standing greats that have made this list, The Coen Brothers are the directors who feel like they're still very much on the rise. That's not to discredit the amazing work in the 90s or 00s, just to point out how over the past few years there's been a push to explore new territory coupled with an indelible filmmaking skill that's given us some of their best.

True Grit wasn't just a remake better than the original, but a cracking western and an ode to youth, while Inside Llewyn Davis is an undersung masterpiece that strikes everything about creative strife just right. Hail, Caesar!, their latest, didn't garner quite the same level of praise, which you'd expect from a more off-kilter comedic film, but was an excellent, immersive take on '50s Hollywood.
