9. The Beta Test
The third film from Jim Cummings (Thunder Road, The Wolf of Snow Hollow) is an eerie horror-thriller set in a world rarely explored by cinema - Hollywood talent agencies.
Cummings stars as high-strung a**hole agent Jordan Hines, who gets lured into an anonymous sexual encounter on the eve of his wedding and finds his life fast unravelling in the aftermath.
At once a look at the rotten misogyny festering away in talent agencies all over Hollywood and a legitimately tight, mysterious thriller in its own right, The Beta Test thrives on the unease and uncertainty it provokes in the viewer.
Right up until its final moments you'll probably not be quite sure how far Cummings and co-director PJ McCabe are going to take things, but it represents nothing if not an ambitious attempt to incorporate real-world concerns about the film industry and the Internet into a more elevated genre film.
