20 Best Horror Movies Of 2021

If you're old enough to remember the UK's "video nasties" moral panic of the 1980s, Prano Bailey-Bond's debut Censor was basically made for you - and even if not, that shouldn't count you out.

Censor is set in the mid-80s as uptight BBFC certifier Enid Baines (Niamh Algar) discovers that one of the films she screens bares ominous echoes to the disappearance of her sister when they were children.

What follows is a wonderfully twisted, dreamlike surrealist horror that uses its increasingly encroaching style to pay tribute to the very VHS-era movies its protagonist is paid to certify.

If you love grungy retro horror or simply enjoy a twisty story adventurously told, then this is a must-see. Hopefully it'll lead to bigger things for both star and filmmaker.
