In a Hollywood world of gadgets, fantasy and futurism, a simple walkie-talkie watch may seem rather white-bread, but in fact it's another reminder of the constantly innovative and prophetic nature of the Bond series. For Your Eyes Only was released 34 years ago, and that's a good 30 or so years before smart watches have become popular consumer items. Remember, the next time you send an IM from your fancy Samsung wristwatch, 007 did it first. Also worth noting is the final scene in the film in which Bond removes the watch mid-conversation with Margaret Thatcher and gives it to a talking parrot. A subtle political comment, or just James being James?
