10. Step-Dad Gets Crushed By A Container - San Andreas
Because San Andreas isn't already a hilariously cliched disaster flick (albeit a fairly entertaining one), we need to have the moldy family subplot where the daughter (Alexandra Daddario) struggles to get on with the kinda-stepdad in her life, Daniel (Ioan Gruffudd). Though things seem fine at first, he eventually ends up abandoning her to save his own hide, which comes back to bite him in the a** later on, as when the Golden Gate Bridge gets torn in half by a gigantic ship, a shipping container is dropped directly on him. The harsh matter-of-factness of it is clearly meant to be comical revenge for what he did earlier, so at least the movie is aware of its own absurdity. Even so, it's pretty damn brutal.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
