20 Best Movie Deaths Of The Decade
19. Fanny - The Hunt (2013)
And from the ridiculous to the utterly harrowing.
Thomas Vinterberg's The Hunt is easily one of the most disturbing, disquieting movies of the decade and it's partly because of how horrifically possible it all seems. The story sees Mads Mikkelsens's Lucas accused of being a paedophile in a mix-up that sees everyone around him believe the innocent testimony of a child.
The twist here is that the child is lying and Lucas did nothing, but he's persecuted as a monster by his former friends, family and neighbour with increasing ferocity as they try to enact mob justice on them. In a particularly awful moment, his dog - Fanny - is murdered by an anonymous assailant, adding an unspeakable tragedy to what is already an almost unwatchably awful trial. That we know he did nothing wrong makes the whole thing viscerally disturbing.
