20 Best Movie Deaths Of The Decade

17. Zara - Jurassic World

Minor characters can sometimes lend more to the plot of a movie than their lives ever did. Step forward Zara, the seemingly aloof personal assistant to Bryce Dallas Howard's Claire (played by Katie McGrath) who basically only existed to remind the audience that the Mosasaurus was around and could be a threat despite being contained in its own tank.

Zara's only crime was being a horrible, negligent person who lost Claire's nephews and allowed them to end up alone in the park in the midst of a major incident. Okay, so that's a big crime, but that still doesn't really justify the brutality of her death, which comes at the height of the escape set-piece when the aviary is breached and the pteranadons run amok (is flying amok a thing?!).

She's unceremoniously plucked out of the air by one of the winged beasties and as if that isn't enough, she's dropped into the Mosasurus tank and gobbled up whole. The fact that it's impactful without anyone actually caring about her says a lot.

Props also to the tragic brachiosaurus that perishes at the climax of the volcanic eruption in sequel, Fallen Kingdom. It's a bad film, but watching that poor creature rear up desperately as it was engulfed in fiery doom was the most emotionally authentic part of the entire thing.
