20 Best Movie Performances Of 2016

Michelle Williams may have a surprisingly small amount of screen time in Kenneth Lonergan's devastating drama, but she sure as Hell makes the most of it as Randi, the ex-wife of Casey Affleck's tortured protagonist Lee.

Williams has some extremely emotionally draining scenes to work through, specifically a viscerally horrific flashback sequence and a present-day confrontation opposite Affleck that's incredibly difficult to shake.

With such an impressive body of work behind her, Williams doesn't really have much to prove anymore, but she nevertheless adds yet another glowing, pitch-perfect performance that does a superb job complimenting Affleck's mesmerising turn (but more on that in a moment).
