20 Best Movie Performances Of 2016
19. Adam Driver - Paterson
Though certainly not as volcanic or showy as, say, Reynolds' Deadpool, Adam Driver brought a quiet dignity to his likable bus driver-poet protagonist with a highly entertaining, incredibly restrained performance.
Propelled forward by Jim Jarmusch's characteristically singular writing and direction, Driver's turn may not be high on dramatic Oscar reel clips (which is probably why he'll miss out on a Best Actor nomination), but it provides a terrifically-calibrated look at the nature of art and human relationships all the same.
It'll be too subtle for some tastes (as will the film entirely), but Paterson gives Driver a marvelous canvas on which to further diversify his acting skill-set.
