20 Best Movie Performances Of 2020

Natalie Erika James' devastating directorial debut Relic is one of the most evocative horror films of the last few years, and much like Ari Aster's Hereditary is a pitch perfect example of how talented directors can meld supernatural scares with real-world horror.

The film, focused on the physical and mental deterioration of an elderly woman, Edna (Robyn Nevin), is bolstered at all times by its trio of superb performances (Edna's mother and daughter played by Emily Mortimer and Bella Heathcote respectively).

But it's Nevin, a lauded character actress in her native Australia, who lends the film its necessarily heartbreaking humanity, depicting a woman slowly fading from herself and her loved ones.

Awards bodies have a well-noted bias against the horror genre, and so it's a crying shame that desperate few are talking about Nevin's wonderful work.
