20 Best Movie Performances Of 2021

19. Rebecca Hall - The Night House

Dev Patel Green Knight
Searchlight Pictures

In a just world, Rebecca Hall would be in serious awards consideration for her career-best performance in David Bruckner's intense psychological horror The Night House.

Hall is unforgettable as Beth, a woman who recently lost her husband to suicide and struggles to piece her life back together, all while experiencing possibly-supernatural phenomena in her midst.

Less a card-carrying horror film than an emotionally charged drama about grief, The Night House gives Hall a platform to dominate the screen in every single second, in both Beth's fraught breakdowns and more subdued, tortured moments.

It's one of the best performances from any horror movie in recent memory, or generally any movie from the past year. Though it sadly bombed at the box office, fans of horror and tightly-wound character studies should absolutely give Bruckner's film a go.
