20 Best Movies About The Movies Of All Time

14. Argo

Hail Cesare
Warner Bros.

Set during the Iran Hostage Crisis, Argo is the story of a CIA agent who disguised American diplomats as members of a fake Sci-Fi film crew so he could smuggle them out of Iran. It's a tense thriller that nabbed the award for Best Picture at the Oscars and adeptly tells the shocking true story with great skill.

The film is primarily a drama focusing on the real life events, but the the aspects of the fake film known as Argo make for an exciting and well developed look into what it takes at a bare minimum to convincingly make a movie. With excellent supporting work from John Goodman and Alan Arkin playing the Hollywood veterans, the world of Hollywood is recreated as they attend conventions and go to meetings in order to convince the world this film really, truly exists.

Considering how often Hollywood is portrayed in a negative light (understandably), it was a nice change to see a film where they are painted as the heroes in a movie based on true events.
