5. The Jungle Book
Jon Favreau exceeded pretty much all expectations with his ludicrously enjoyable, wonderfully sweet adaptation of the beloved Disney animation.
In fact, this is a rare live-action remake that actually managed to outdo its animated forebear, thanks to jaw-dropping visual effects, fantastic vocal performances, and of course, those unforgettable songs.
Particular praise goes to Bill Murray as Baloo, Idris Elba as Shere Khan and of course, Christopher Walken as King Louie, who basically steals the movie during his brief appearance.
While it remains to be seen how the greenlit sequel will pan out, this is a fantastic standalone adventure that retains the soul of the source material even while taking it to lush new heights.
