20 Best Movies Of 2016

1. Arrival

The Nice Guys
Paramount Pictures

Denis Villeneuve once again proves why he's one of the most fascinating filmmakers working today, taking a familiar alien invasion premise and completely flipping it on its head.

Amy Adams gives an Oscar-worthy performance as a language expert attempting to communicate with the aliens, and Jeremy Renner provides terrific support as the sarcastic mathematician helping her out.

It may be too slow, vague or complex for those expecting a more conventional genre film, but for fans of smart sci-fi, Arrival is just the ticket, a stylistically stunning romp with easily the year's best and most interesting plot twist. You're basically duty bound to watch it twice if you even remotely enjoyed it the first time.
