Cargo Martin Freeman

Martin Freeman's certainly done a good job branching out from comedy fare in recent years, and Cargo is yet further proof that he's got the dramatic chops to carry deathly serious material on his shoulders.

Freeman has perhaps never been better, playing father to a baby daughter amid the ever-encroaching bleakness of a zombie apocalypse. Gorgeously lensed, appropriately grisly and downcast yet never devolving into misery porn, this is an efficient, refreshing and emotionally resonant entry into a wildly over-saturated genre.

As much of a mixed bag as genre films tend to be on Netflix, Cargo offers up a riveting, beautifully bleak and achingly human addition the streaming platform's Originals line-up.
