5. Avengers: Infinity War

Even with a tidal wave of unreasonable fan expectations to deal with, the Russo brothers did it: they delivered on the promise of a star-studded, almost unthinkably ambitious superhero epic.

Expertly juggling its massive roster of superheroes while giving the MCU its best and most fleshed-out villain to date with Josh Brolin's terrific Thanos, Infinity War is the epitome of crowd-pleasing comic book cinema.

It is of course only the first half of a two-part story, but by cutting to the soul of its characters both human and alien while annihilating the audience with wildly imaginative set-pieces, Infinity War is a rare blockbuster that lives up to the out-of-control hype.
