9. Dual

On-the-rise filmmaker Riley Stearns (The Art of Self-Defense) returns with this deliciously savage black comedy about a woman, Sarah (Karen Gillan), who discovers she's dying and subsequently has herself cloned to spare her loved ones any grief.

But when Sarah's suddenly cured, she's legally required to fight her clone to the death in order to determine which one should be allowed to live. It's one hell of a hook for a twisted, materially strange sci-fi thriller in which Karen Gillan gives herself over entirely to this, yes, dual role.

With an intentionally stilted, deadpan comedic style while digging deep into the psychic trauma of preparing to murder a clone of oneself, Dual manages to be both deeply unnerving and absolutely hilarious, the latter aided considerably by a supporting turn from Aaron Paul as Sarah's trainer.
