10. The Outfit

Amid a sea of wild, over-the-top blockbusters, sometimes it's refreshing to sit with a sober, mostly quiet drama that takes place almost entirely inside a single location.

That's The Outfit, a remarkably crafted crime drama in which a bespoke tailor (Mark Rylance) finds his Chicago tailor shop becoming ground zero for a war playing out among a fleet of vicious gangsters.

This is absolutely a movie best watched while knowing little, because despite its modest, almost play-like staging, the script is so expertly structured, and the central turn from Mark Rylance so brilliantly calibrated, that it quickly becomes a gut-wrenching exercise in pulsing unease.

With all the wit and verve of a classic Agatha Christie story, The Outfit etches out a firm place for itself in the twist-filled whodunnit genre.
