18. The Bad Guys

Everything Everywhere All at Once Michelle Yeoh
Universal

At once likely to enthrall young fans of Aaron Blabey's graphic novel series and those who've never heard of it, The Bad Guys is a giddy, fast-paced parody of heist movies that keenly honours and makes fun of the genre's tropes.

Backed by a likeable roster of characters and cracking vocal cast - including Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Awkwafina, Craig Robinson, Anthony Ramos, Richard Ayoade, and Zazie Beetz - The Bad Guys is nevertheless best singled out for its stunningly unconventional animation.

Alright, it's not exactly Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but it's still extremely impressive how the film's animation dynamically combines 2D and 3D to ensure there's very little else out there that looks quite like it.

With the film grossing $200 million globally - against an $80 million budget, no less - expect a sequel to be confirmed soon enough.
