20 Best Movies Of 2022

Todd Field's (Little Children) first film in 16 years was definitely worth the wait, as his new drama about a world famous composer (Cate Blanchett) facing a major personal scandal is absolutely intoxicating.
Cate Blanchett gives a career-best performance as Lydia Tár - an intimidatingly steadfast, confident woman and composer, who finds herself battling an increasingly overwhelming tide of bad publicity once accusations about her conduct emerge.
Field's film isn't merely a cheap shot at "cancel culture," though: it's a delightfully fluid character study that takes many unexpected narrative and stylistic detours throughout its beefy 158-minute runtime, though is certainly never boring.
Field crucially leaves plenty up in the air for the audience to consider by film's end, but few will argue with the power of Blanchett's performance or the might of Field's filmmaking vision. Please don't make us wait another 16 years next time, though, Todd.
