20 Best Movies Of 2022

Decision to Leave doesn't quite soar to the heights of Park Chan-wook's very best films, but it is another bewilderingly weird mystery thriller with some surgingly romantic overtones.

If not as strikingly unpredictable as, say, Oldboy, Decision to Leave takes a seemingly basic thriller template and contorts it in some truly beguiling directions, as a detective begins to fall for the wife of a man whose murder he is investigating.

It's far from what it sounds like, though, and Chan-wook clearly relishes tying the audience up in knots while proving himself far more interested in the sensuality of its romance than more typical genre tropes.

Park Hae-il and Tang Wei make for a pair of absolutely hypnotic leads, in a film that delivers one of the most memorable climaxes of the entire year.
