20 Best Movies Of 2024 (So Far)
2. All Of Us Strangers
And the award for most heartbreaking film of 2024 goes to: All of Us Strangers!
The latest offering from Andrew Haigh, a director with a long line of films exploring the lonely and heartbroken, All of Us Strangers follows a lonely writer (Andrew Scott) who finds the ghosts of his parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell) still inhabiting his childhood home, offering him a chance to tell them all the things they never got to hear him say.
Fantastical but grounded in a stirring reality, the film hinges massively on Scott, whose portrayal of a disillusioned, broken man is nothing short of a revelation, as well as his romantic co-star Paul Mescal, who again shows he's at his best when bringing audiences to tears.
Healing and stylistically daring, All of Us Strangers takes the concept of grief and makes it physical, allowing Scott's writer to find some kind of peace in the darkest hours of his life. You may finish it emotionally exhausted, but you may just find some solace in the things it has to say.
