20 Best Netflix Original Horror Movies - Ranked

7. Ravenous

Annihilation Natalie Portman
Les Films Seville

As undeniably well-worn as the zombie genre is nowadays, all it takes is for a fresh voice to spruce it up, as is certainly the case with this French-Canadian effort from writer-director Robin Aubert.

In a remote rural village in Quebec, a small group of survivors hide out in a forest in the wake of a zombie-like outbreak, and as familiar a set-up as that might sound, Aubert's film boasts a number of unique spins on typical genre conventions.

Beautifully filmed and persuasively acted, Ravenous offers up just enough subversion of zombie movie lore to be not only intriguing but also emotionally gratifying.

It's also exceptionally moody and, despite its card-carrying status as an "art-house horror film," boasts lashings of gore.

If you're craving a zombie film that's familiar yet different, you can't go wrong here.
