20 Best Netflix Original Horror Movies - Ranked
6. Apostle
While lacking a little of the frenetic exactitude of director Gareth Evans' The Raid movies, Apostle is still a terrifically atmospheric, Wicker Man-inspired period horror, topped by a stonking performance from the ever-reliable Dan Stevens.
Stevens is remarkable as Thomas Richardson, a man who travels to a remote Welsh island in order to rescue his sister (Elen Rhys), who has been kidnapped and held there by a shadowy cult.
From Matt Flannery's beautiful cinematography to Fajar Yusekemal and Aria Prayogi's sinewy score, this thing is dripping with style, while Stevens' fine work is matched by strong supporting turns from the brilliant Michael Sheen and Mark Lewis Jones as the cult's higher-ups.
Though Evans takes a slow-burn approach, the uneasy build makes for entrancing viewing, while the eventual blood-letting is as disturbingly queasy as you'd hope for given the director's prior work.
